Global Lens Film Series, part of an international initiative that works to “promote cross-cultural understanding through film.” The story follows two unlikely friends: Souad, a prostitute without a cell phone, and Kenza, a traffic cop who rents out her cell to friends and neighbors for a small fee. When the cop starts answering calls from one of her bff’s clients (who also happens to be a gun for hire), a bizarre courtship ensues. Despite its twisted plot, the film presents a fresh, modern view of an ancient culture, refusing to conform to Western expectations of Moroccan society — which has garnered director Fauozi Bensaïdi international acclaim. 8 p.m. Weds., May 27, The Studio@620, St. Petersburg, $8 general/$5 students and seniors, 727-895-6620.
