Can a plastic cup make wine taste better?

For wine lovers the accoutrement for enjoying wine are second only to the wine itself. I don't collect gadgets just for the sake of having them. But I don't mind picking up something new when I find it really adds to my

enjoyment of wine. Recently while visiting my neighborhood wine shop I discovered a wine glass that has made drinking wine at picnics and cookouts even more enjoyable.

Wine just seems to go with picnics, but the proper glassware can be problematic. Good wine glasses take up lots of space and too often wind up with broken stems. Sturdier glasses still take up lots of room with their stems, and the bowl of the glass is usually too small to permit a proper swirl. Styrofoam is unthinkable, and plastic cups are just out of the question.

That is until now. Govino is a wine tumbler made of food grade plastic, but it looks and feels much like a good quality wine glass. Its design is incredibly well thought out. The shape of the bowl makes it possible to swirl without the wine sloshing out of the glass. An indent for the thumb makes the glass ergonomically practical, and indicates the proper level for a 6-ounce pour. And the absence of a stem saves lots of room in the picnic basket.

Govino tumblers are not only good for wine, they are good for the planet. They may be washed and reused, and when it is time to dispose of a Govino tumbler it is recyclable. Govino tumblers do not contain bisphenol-A.

I found the Govino tumlers for $2.99 each at Wine World - Grand Boulevard, in Miramar Beach, Florida (850-622-0802).
