Tampa Theatre continues its run of The Great Buck Howard (pictured below), a dramedy about an aspiring writer (played by Colin Hanks) who goes against his father's wishes and drops out of law school to search for some meaningful life experience. Enter new employer Buck Howard (John Malkovich), a once-famous mentalist who's in search of a comeback. Also stars Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn and Tom Hanks. 7:30 p.m., Tampa Theatre, downtown Tampa, $9 adults/$8 students with ID/$7 seniors, military, members.

I was just listening to Sweet Baby James the other day in the car — randomly, not ’cause of James Taylor's show — and it’s … y’know, really, really good. Taylor’s full-bodied voice is still the sonic equivalent of fine cognac. This show is sold out, however, member exchanges may open up some seats (call the box office early), or, if that doesn't pan out, you may find the random extra outside the hall. Good luck. 8 p.m., Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater. —Eric Snider

The St. Petersburg College Orchestra, conducted by Dr. John Bannon, performs a concert of works by Mozart and Haydn. 7:30 p.m., St. Pete College-Gibbs Campus, St. Petersburg, free admission, 727-341-3600.

Athletes and couch potatoes alike are invited to compete in "Beat the Geezer," a health challenge to raise funds and awareness for the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay. Participants attempt to outrun 53-year-old AARP member Rick Clark (aka "The Geezer") in a treadmill challenge! 5-8 p.m., Bally Total Fitness, 4340 W. Hillborough Ave., Tampa, donations gratefully appreciated for BGTB.

Chris Nathan’s another in a considerable roster of singer/songwriters who bring a blue-eyed-soul feel to their singing. To all of you I say, “John Mayer’s pretty much cornered the market, dudes.” This show is part of the TBPAC’s WOB Unplugged series and will take place in the 268-seat Jaeb Theater. 7 p.m., Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa, $24.65-$95. —ES
