Vegan beauty: No animals were harmed in the making of this lipstick

A deafening buzz dances around everything organic today, with particular attention paid to the oh-so-green world of veganism.  The most hardcore of organic vegetarians, vegans do not eat, wear or use anything derived from our furry friends.  With stringent restrictions in mind, I did a little research to discover which cosmetic brands out there cater to this environmentally conscious group.

Ecco Bella Makeup from earth minerals infused with flower waxes.  Gluten and preservative free, Ecco Bella provides a full range of skin care, fragrance and body care, and even has a Health by Chocolate organic chocolate bar line that fights against health issues ranging from PMS to bone health.

Alba Natural and effective shampoos, conditioners and styling products, enriched with herbal extracts, botanical oils and plant proteins. Alba also makes a skin care and body care line.  From alfalfa to lavender, the ingredients in this organic line are extensive.

BWC. For over 40 years, Beauty Without Cruelty has specialized in producing high-quality, high-performance, affordable color cosmetics that are animal-compassionate. They avoid all animal-derived ingredients and animal testing, making the line suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.

These are just three of many cosmetics lines that cater to vegans and vegetarians.  Heck, I say the less steps from earth to eyes and lips, the better.

Common cosmetic ingredients such as cetyl alcohol (a wax derived from sperm whales) and carmine (a red pigment extracted from crushed insects) are found in your favorite crimson lipstick.  So what cosmetics are out there for vegan vixens? Lots!
