It's Final! The winner of the 2009 Tournament of Tacos Readers' Poll is...

After four weeks of voting -- and over 7,500 votes cast -- you guys have picked the most popular tacos in the entire Bay area.

The Championship match pitted the popular Dunedin Mexican restaurant Casa Tina against the surprisingly active fans of Lutz's Mekenita Mexican Grill in a 24-hour marathon of voting. It was the most active contest by far, with over 2,500 votes cast.

Did the Dunedin Darling beat the Lutz Lover?

MEKENITA MEXICAN GRILL WINS! The vote was close aLl the way up to the finish, but Mekenita outdistanced Casa Tina in the final hours by a score of 1490-1365. Congrats to both worthy competitors.

I am so dissappointed I cannot even tell you. I think Tampa has no idea what authentic mexican cuisine tastes like. I am from El Paso Texas and I think I have and idea. Well Mekanita one but I am not going to drive all that way for their food. I did it once and it was ok but if I am going to make a drive its going to be to Dunedin!

They where relentless for the last two and a half hours. I am still going to Casa Tina's also. Sorry Tina we tried.

Regardless of the winner, I've learned about a bunch of new places I've yet to try -- excited for that.

Yes, Sorry Tina and Javier, we tried. All I can say is three of my favorite places, Casa Tina's, Zurrito's and La Cabana del Tio all did exceedingly well. At least I know my hunger for tacos does not need to be quenched by making a 'run for the border!'
