Over a thousand people voted in the first round of CL's Tournament of Tacos Readers' Poll and -- although I might have disagreed with a couple of your picks -- most of you have shown remarkable taste. Most of the competitions were no surprise -- like Taconazo, Red Mesa, Mema's or Peg's moving on thanks to their hordes of loyal fans -- but a few dark horse taco joints managed to buck the pundits and turn out the vote.

Who made it into the Savory Sixteen? Find that and an updated bracket after the break.

Red Mesa, Zapata, Agave and Peg's Cantina move on in Pinellas South.

Cabana del Tio, Carmelita's, El Toro Negro and Casa Tina move on in Pinellas North.

Acapulco Grocery, Estela's, Algusto and Mema's Alaskan Tacos move on in Tampa South.

Taconazo, Don Pancho Villa, Sabor Latino and Mekenita move on in Tampa North.

Voting starts later today to pick who's worthy of the Edible Eight. Check back to make sure your fave makes it into the next round. And check out the updated bracket below to find who's facing who. And to get your daily fix of updates, bookmark the Tournament of Tacos Readers' Poll info page.

Yep, or more accurately, a mistake on my part. Zurritos did win both my critic and the readers' vote, so you guys move on to the Savory Sixteen. I corrected it across the board. Thanks for paying attention.
