Creative Loafings inaugural Oscar contest was simple: Pick the winners in six top categories and tell us what time the show would end. Dozens of you took a shot, with 13 entrants nailing all six categories correctly. After we sorted out the tiebreaker (the show ended at 11:56 p.m., with the credits rolling until 11:59 p.m.), the only person left standing was Bay area resident Debbie Tozier.
When asked via e-mail how she came by her amazing Oscar prognostication skills, Debbie replied: I guess a did a little research by reading Oscar articles in Creative Loafing and the St. Pete Times, and I had seen several of the movies and felt pretty strongly about some of my choices.
She also attributes her success to a family of film fans: My two sons (ages 17 and 21) are both movie buffs, so for the last few years my husband, sons, and I have filled out Oscar ballots, and the person who gets the most picks right gets the prize the winner picks a movie and we all go together to see it.
This year, that movie will be on us (though at press time were still sorting out exactly which film it will be). As for her free dinner, Debbie selected Fly Restaurant in downtown Tampa. (I love the ambiance, she says.)
Congratulations Debbie, and thanks to everyone who participated both in our Oscar contest and our live-blogging of the event.
Until next year, the balcony is closed.
