New Heights Magazine chimes in on the perennial debate about who has the best Cuban sandwich in Tampa. Find out who they picked after the jump.

The January/February 2009 issue of New Heights Magazine focuses on Pipo's on South MacDill. Pipo's relies on Mauricio Faedo's authentic Cuban bread for its sandwiches filled with "Baked Ham, Roasted Pork, Genoa Salami, Mortedella, and Swiss Cheese."

(Here's a 7 minute video of Faedo's I found on Google video from 2002.)

Pipo's also relies on Naviera Coffee Mills for its cafe con leche.

In 2006 Andy Huse set out to locate the best Cuban sandwich in the bay-area and declared Museum Cafe in Homosassa to be the best. (Look for Andy' work here at CL soon!)

Laura Reiley notes that the Columbia was not satisfied with not having the best Cuban sandwich, and is determined to best all competition by importing their salami from Italy and using a fancy steam convection oven to get the glazed ham perfectly carmelized.

My current favorite (and coincidentally the winner of Eating Tampa's 2008 Reader's Poll) is at Cafe Hey.

Where is your favorite Cuban sandwich?

I must agree with Laura Reiley on this one - d'town Tampa's Cafe Hey has the best Cuban in town by far. Followed closely by Castellano and Pizzo on Henderson in Tampa.

Taylor, you're breaking my heart! First, no love on the Clean Scores post (which I wrote about here weeks ago), and now giving Laura R. credit for my Cafe Hey recommendation. Ah, well. Thanks for the Castellano and Pizzo suggestion. Maybe I'll go there tomorrow.
