Live blogging Super Bowl 43

Posted by Stephen Hammill on Sun, Feb 1, 2009 at 1:25 PM

10:15 Stay tuned as we live blog The Office. Just kidding. Goodnight, everybody!

10:12 After many years of snoozefests, we've had two great games in two years. This probably doesn't top the Giants/Patriots, or does it?

10:10 Pittsburgh 26 - Arizona 23 - FINAL

Valiant comeback by Arizona, but in the end their defense could not hold.

10:08 Hail Mary, full of grace...

Omar Epps or Mike Tomlin. Can you tell the difference?

10:04 Pittsburgh 27 - Arizona 23

The play stands. Cardinals have 35 seconds and two timeouts to score a touchdown.

10:00 Pittsburgh 26 - Arizona 23

Touchdown Holmes. This will get reviewed...

9:58 And Arizona's defense falls asleep. First and goal for Pittsburgh with :48 on the clock.

9:52 This would tie for the biggest comeback ever in a Super Bowl with this one:

In Super Bowl XXII, the Washington Redskins trailed the Denver Broncos 10-0 at the start of the second quarter. Washington then scored 35 points in the second quarter to set a Super Bowl record for points in a quarter and effectively ended the competitive aspect of the game. Washington won the game 42-10.

9:48 Pittsburgh 20 - Arizona 23

Make that two great catches from Larry Fitzgerald. He's your Super Bowl MVP if the score holds.

9:45 Pittsburgh 20 - Arizona 16

And on the next play, we get our safety. Free kick coming for Arizona.

9:43 Nearly had a safety there, which would've been the fourth in Super Bowl history.

9:39 Brenda Warner shot count: 4.

9:37 Is Arizona finally playing their game, or is this a result of Pittsburgh going into their no-big-play defense? Either way, we have an exciting three minutes ahead of us.

9:29 Commercial watch: That Hulu commercial is bound to confuse people who don't know anything about it.

9:26 Pittsburgh 20 - Arizona 14

Great catch by Larry Fitzgerald there. Touchdown and a six-point game.

9:19 Commercial watch: "My gold hip replacement!"

9:16 Can Arizona take advantage of their first sack of the Super Bowl?

9:06 End of third quarter. Cardinals have not taken many shots down field. They may need to.

9:03 Brenda Warner shot count: 3.

9:00 Commercial watch: Here's the Career Builder ad, perhaps the best of the night so far?

8:58 Pittsburgh 20 - Arizona 7

What should've been three points almost becomes became seven after a bad Arizona penalty then ends up being just three. Still, a lot of clock ran off due to the penalty. The fat lady is going through her warmup scales in the dressing room.

8:50 We're starting to see the Steelers wear down Arizona's defense. First and goal.

8:38 Here are the details of Denny's free grand slam breakfast offer:

Every guest from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Tuesday will receive 1 free Grand slam, and 1 free coupon book with 8 coupons in it. Each coupon book has 4 BOGO's, 2- 25% off coupons, 1 coupon good for free dessert , and 1 coupon good for a free order of pancake puppies. Each Denny's in the US received 1,000 of these coupon books to hand out to guests on Tuesday who order a free Grand Slam.

Denny's spent 3 million on the Super Bowl ad, and tons more on a full page ad this coming Monday in USA Today. They are taking this very seriously and instructing all stores to staff as if it's a major Holiday and for the staff to be as friendly as humanly possible.

8:30 And we're off with the 2nd half.

8:22 Commercial watch: Did Overstock.com just pay $3 million for a commercial spot and not shoot it in high definition??

8:15 Gotta get the new single in there! Give it to Bruce for admitting they're only doing the halftime show to sell the new CD.

8:08 "I want you to step back from the guacamole dip!"

8:03 Will Bruce play The Rising tonight? Here's hoping there's no bastardized Born to Run medley.

HALFTIME It's official. The longest play in Super Bowl history and a huge momentum shift. One wonders if the Cardinals can possibly recover.

7:53 Pittsburgh 17 - Arizona 7

Warner throws a pick on the last play of the half. James Harrison runs it back 100-yards for the touchdown. Or did he? We're under review...

7:49 Welcome to Super Bowl 43, Larry Fitzgerald.

7:42 First turnover of the game could be a big one as Roethlisberger's pass is tipped and intercepted by Dansby.

7:37 So much for momentum. Arizona goes nowhere with the ball and gives it back to the Steelers with plenty of time on the clock.

7:31 A big stop for the Arizona defense as they try to take hold of the momentum. Let's see if they can get points before the half.

7:21 Pittsburgh 10 - Arizona 7

Warner hits tight end Ben Patrick for the score as Arizona fights back. Maybe we'll have a game after all.

7:18 Hard to win when you can't run the ball, but they're trying. Four yards gained on Arizona's first four runs.

7:08 Pittsburgh 10 - Arizona 0

Russel runs it in for the touchdown. Cardinals better stop the bleeding soon.

7:08: Commercial watch: "Matt Lauer can eat it!!"

Land of the Lost trailer:

7:01 End of first quarter. All Steelers so far; they'll have 2nd and goal to start the quarter.

6:58 An example of the Cardinals' hyper aggressive defense there, as they fail to contain Big Ben on the scramble.

6:53 Commercial watch: Here's a scene from Year One:

6:46 Commercial watch: Here's the really bad Dylan/Will.I.Am Pepsi commercial:

6:42 Field Goal - Pittsburgh 3 - Arizona 0

Play is overturned. Steelers play it safe and take the three points.

This one may be coming back. Replay seems inconclusive.

6:38: TOUCHDOWN Pittsburgh 7 - Arizona 0

Arizona, say hello to Pittsburgh's boomstick. So much for Big Ben's nerves. He's already had a better game than Super Bowl 40.

6:28 NFC wins coin toss for 12th straight year.

6:22 Commercial watch: I don't know about anybody else, but when I think of G.I. Joe, I think of Dennis Quaid:

6:20: Sully!

6:15 Brenda Warner shot count: 2.

6:10 Commercial watch: What economic collapse? There will be 67 spots ranging between $2.4 million and $3 million per 30-second commercial slot this year.

5:56 Matt Millen just picked the Cardinals to win, which seals the game for Pittsburgh.

5:28 One hour from kickoff and we've only seen Kurt Warner's wife once, and she doesn't have the spike haircut anymore.

5:24 Technical issues aside, the Obama/Lauer interview was good.

4:44 I'm sorry, but fake Journey just doesn't do it for me. Steve Perry, somebody has your back.

4:20 Super Bowl party at the White House sounds pretty badass, and Obama, further proving he's a different cat altogether, shuns political "rules," says he's rooting for the Steelers.

4:10 Sure, Anquan Boldin is the toughest player in the league, now that Martin Gramitica is team-less.

3:52 Raymond James Stadium looks spiffy in the aerial shots. FYI: They added a bunch of seats in the end-zone picnic areas to increase capacity from 65,000 to 72,500.

3:45 I've seen more of ever other single NFL jersey today than the Cardinals.

3:40 Is Tony Dungy ever going to talk? OK, he's talking now.

3:30 NBC is doing a nice job so far, but Roker's "Super Suite" is woefully bad. Someone should've told them TRL was canceled.

3:20 Will Farrell's Land of the Lost interview with Al Roker = funny.

2:14 Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick are in good spirits on NBC pregame. Only four hours to go... So I see some Cardinals jerseys outside the stadium, but it's quite possible those are paid extras at this point.

I wonder if politically conservative NFL fans feel the same way seeing Olbermann do sports as I felt when Rush Limbaugh used to do the Sunday NFL Countdown.

1:20 p.m. Good afternoon, sports fans!

Not much to report yet. Game time temp. for kickoff (about 6:28) expected to be a cool 60 degrees. I still have yet to see a single Arizona Cardinals jersey in town. So whose gonna win this thing?

Like it was any secret. He picked Pittsburgh to win, but didn't elaborate on what he thought the score would be. Then he acknowledged Jessica Simpson's recent weight battle on the cover of US Magazine..

It's a "reboot" of the franchise. By JJ Arams. The story of the original characters and how they meet up. On an island. After a plane crash.

Hi all. Back from alt-bar crawl. Quick recap: Tumbleweeds blowing through Hyde Park Village, Ybor apparently still recovering from hangover from last night, but got some funny drag-queen, hookah-smoker, drunk-boyfriend footage. And as soon I got home, Cardinals get a touchdown. Say thanks, Kurt.
