When Chad and I were asked to create art for Manifest Hope:DC we were honored beyond words. The opportunity to be part of history and even art history was something we couldn't pass up. For this monumental exhibit we created two pieces, "Hope is Dope" and "The Great Communicator."
Now, here we are, at the center of the universe... Washington DC. The vibe is indescribable...
There is an electricity like nothing I've ever felt. Everyone is smiling, laughing and talking with one another. It's as if these past eight years we had been living in the Divided States of America... and now at this moment we are united again. For each American this coming change means something different. For us, we are most excited about what this means for the Arts. We are about to enter a new age of creativity. Obama has already set the stage by making art such an important component of his campaign.
This new era will usher in a movement of peace, positivity, hope, simplicity and unlimited possibility. I suspect it will be a sweeping change that will transform visual art, film, fashion and music. Say goodbye to skulls, over embellished crap and general themes of darkness. Sure those things have always been around... but they are so 2005.
Yes, the future has finally arrived and what I've come to realize is that this is OUR future. We all need to step up and become the change we want. Only we can heal our nation and put it back on track. We have to remember what Obama keeps telling us... it's not about him - it's about us.
(( Stay tuned for more posts focusing on Manifest Hope:DC. The exhibit opened today and is truly inspiring. The show ends on Monday night with a gala featuring De La Soul, Santogold, Moby and a "Special Guest." The word on the street is that Obama is coming by that night to thank all the artists for supporting him. ))

"This new era will usher in a movement of peace, positivity, hope, simplicity and unlimited possibility" is more of the mostly naive hyperbolic stupidity to come out of this election/inauguration runup. Tell me there won't be black teens slinging dope and white methheads hooking on Nebraska next month or year. Tell me they'll all have green jobs installing solar panels on community centers. Tell me the folks who own this country are going to relinquish possession without a fight. Tell me the chinese will finance our future. Those predictions are no stupider than to say "This new era will usher in a movement of peace, positivity, hope, simplicity and unlimited possibility"
Dear Stu, With such dismal and pessimistic attitude like yours, this country would have long been extinct from this planet. So, drop the blues, and hop on this train of optimism and positivity. It may seem hard to do, but trust me, you will feel much better. GREAT JOB BLUE LUCY!!!!!!
It's the most excited I've ever been. You know Chad and I met at the beginning of the Bush "error." We're finally through it... and now it's our time. I was reading that first post from the "clogger"- stu. I feel for these folks who have all this negativity in their hearts. I didn't really understand the China slam and solar panel thing??? I'm talking about art here... but maybe he didn't understand, or just couldn't understand.
