More delaying and screwing around with Hometown Democracy

Posted by Kelly Cornelius on Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 6:40 PM

Yet another post for the WTF category. Florida Hometown Democracy, the citizen's initiative to let voters dictate growth, has suffered yet another blow on it's way to the ballot. Not much detail found in this article regarding FHD other than Judge Kenneth Marra said that the case landed in the wrong court.

How come he couldn't figure that out while the case was being heard and why didn't the court figure this out before it was heard and sent to the appropriate district? The case was heard on Aug. 6 and this news was released on the 12th. Meanwhile time is ticking away with respect to getting it on the November ballot.

You have to wonder if it is truly in the wrong district or if this guy just didn't want to be the one to tell the developers, chambers, and politicians that people have a right to vote on this.

You also can't help but wonder if this is this just more gutter politics to keep FHD off the ballot? At the very least it seems to me Judge Marra doesn't have the pair God gave a Chihuahua, but that is just one NIMBY's opinions.

Stay tuned. The developers haven't paved over the last blade of grass in our state yet so hopefully this citizen's initiative will be on the November ballot. Of course that now requires the approval of a judge in Tallahassee. Do you think there will be a blade still left in 2010?

Once again, the citizens will be screwed by the developers. Seems to me that this judge doesn't recognize what is or is not in his juristdiction. HMM - maybe not such a good thing.

It's amazing how powerful the building industry lobby really is. They can make county commissioners turn into Pinocchios and invoke instant alzheimers in judges. And we citizens, the ones that government is supposed to be serving, keep getting the short end of the stick. I hope that this judge's alzheimer attack will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. The politicians and their puppetmasters have made a mess of things. We want to control our own future!!!
