Choose or Lose 2007

As you may have noticed (observant Loaf reader that you are), our 2008 Best of the Bay Reader's Poll ballot has been running in the paper and online for the last few weeks. The votes are already tumbling in to the CL office, with Internet ballots outpacing the old-fashioned paper ones by more than two-to-one. Of course, with the polls now open, the chicanery has begun. A note on ballot stuffing: We're all for it! Go crazy and get as many people as you can to send in ballots with votes for your band or business. We don't mind at all. In fact, we're encouraging it.
Let's say your the owner of a nice day spa or local-favorite breakfast place. You've seen the Best Of ballot and thought to yourself, "Man, I should get all my customers to fill one out and then I'll win one of those snazzy Loafies at the big award show at the Tampa Theatre in September." We're with you. Get out there and start campaigning. Press the flesh a bit. Keep pens and copies of Creative Loafing by the register and get everyone who buys something to vote. You can even send them in bulk. We love ballots. The more the merrier!!
Of course, there are a few rules to ballot stuffing. Here's the not-so-fine print:
- Only one ballot per person, please. We have several NSA-trained handwriting experts sorting the mail and identifying multiple ballots filled out by the same duplicitous individual. Yes, I made that up. It's just regular, old Loaf staffers catching your dumb ass, but after years of sorting these things we can spot the cheaters from a mile away. You can try to slip a few by us, but you're just embarrassing yourself. Why bother?
- This is the biggie, folks: Each ballot needs to have at least 25 categories filled in. For example, check this out:
We got 12 ballots just like this today … and all 12 went straight into the garbage. It's nothing against Kennedy Salon & Day Spa. In fact, we admire their moxie. But if you want a ballot to count, we're going to need to see a little more effort. Surely you have a favorite restaurant or band or actress or wine shop?
Be proud of your opinion and let your voice be heard. Voting continues until August 8, so there is plenty of time left to get your votes in. But why procrastinate? Make your opinion known: Click here and get started right now.
