From dressing up as a North Korean military leader at the 2015 Golden Globes to appearing in Weird Al's “Tacky” music video, there isn't anything Margaret Cho is not willing to do in the name of comedy. A three time Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian, Cho is “never one to shy away from a difficult, or even 'taboo' topic,” so no subject will be off limits for her audience.
What's the best part? She's bringing her unapologetic, tongue-in-cheek humor to The Tampa Improv in Ybor City Feb. 27-28. Cho will perform two shows nightly for a total of four shows while she's in Tampa.
Over the past few months, Cho has been touring across the country, debuting new material to her hundreds of thousands of fans. Tampa is one of her last stops before heading up to NYC to film her new comedy special,There's No I in Team, but there's a 'Cho' in Psycho.
When asked about her upcoming filming, Cho said, “This is my most exciting show to date and I can't wait to share it with you. This show is all about the insanity in the world. ...” Cho's life is not only about jokes; she is a well-known activist for human rights.
While on tour, she will be promoting her new late-night talk show, All About Sex, which airs every Saturday night at 11 p.m. on TLC. This show discusses the “latest headlines,” debunks the most controversial sex myths, and seeks to answer women's most burning sex questions via social media. The series, like Cho's comedy shows, is filled with humor and excitement, while remaining honest about topics affecting Americans today.
Many critics have claimed Cho, an openly queer woman, will serve as the “voice” of gay women across America. Cho, in an interview with AfterEllen, said, “I think that's the reason I'm doing this show, it's all from the queer perspective because it's the only perspective I know.” She went on to add, “It's not just queer issues that I represent on the show, its all types of alternative sexuality, which we will be exploring in great detail because there's never been a TV show that focuses just on that.”
Deemed “a thought leader” and a “teacher to those with open minds and open hearts” through the use of comedy, Cho's show is sure to leave the audience rolling with laughter – and thinking about the social commentary long after the jokes have stopped.
