Tweed Ride 2015, everyone's favorite combo of bicycle riding, socializing and anachronising, will take over the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club again Sat., Feb. 28.
The leisurely bike ride through downtown St Petersburg invites all to show up wearing tweed or other vintage clothing from way back when. Expect to see local young folks who barely remember audiocassettes — let alone Victrolas — gussied up like ladies and chaps before the first stock market crash. Accessories and fashions typically worn include derby hats, vests, pipes, glued-on curly mustaches (though most are real these days), petticoats, lace-up boots, stirrups, dresses from your great grandma's closet and various other pieces from the thrift store. The ride has been called "the most fashionable event on two wheels."
Doors open and registration begin at 2 p.m. Gather at the Shuffleboard Club for tea and scones and a game of croquet. Ride starts at 4 p.m. An after party 5-9 p.m. features music by the Cook Trio and vittles catered by Eat This
