The Laugh Tract — who's bringing the funny

  • Political humorist Bill Maher will do what he does best at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday night.

Bill Maher is in town. If that brings a smile to your face, hope you saved your money. It's not a cheap ticket, but promises the fireworks you love.

But if you roll your eyes when you hear his name, never fear. There are plenty of other comedy options for you this weekend. Whatever your political leanings, there's laughter in your future.

Here's what's on tap this week:

Theaters and Special Events

Bill Maher at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Maher's outspoken political views have probably made you nod your head in agreement or shake your head in anger. Or both. But his aim is to entertain, and he'll use his stand-up talents to make the audience laugh — and think — on Saturday night. Showtime is Saturday at 8 p.m. 1111 McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. Info: rutheckerdhall.com or 727-791-7400.

Chris D'Elia at Straz Center (Ferguson Hall). D'Elia looks like he'd be a low-key performer, but he's actually quite animated, voicing the characters that populate his funny stories. The recognizable themes should draw an enthusiastic crowd when he's in town. Showtime is Saturday at 8 p.m. 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Info: strazcenter.org or 813-229-7827.
