For most artists, the process of selling one’s own art is a vile one. There’s no problem with the money-making end of it. The problem lies in the logistics. No artist wants to go out and peddle their own work; to go out and tell someone why they should buy this piece or that one, and subsequently get all caught up in the rat-race. The artist wants to create, have his or her vision realized within the eyes of another, and then move on to the next project. The reality of the situation is, most often, very different. In order to keep working as an up-and-coming artist, you need money. And unless you’re willing to subsidize all your living expenses with a second or third job, in addition to the time spent on your art, you’re going to need a backer — someone who believes in what you’re doing; someone to give you a real shot at doing what you love to do. This is where The Arts Council and CASS (Contemporary Arts Space and Studio), in Tampa, can help.
Their exhibition workshop will give detailed insights on how to actually write an exhibition proposal and on how to take photographs that maximize all the visual elements of your work — both key elements to pitching a proper gallery exhibition.
The workshop begins tonight, Aug 4, from 5 to 6 p.m. is check-in, networking, and refreshments. Then, from 6-8 p.m., the actual workshop presentations take place, followed by a Q&A. The two presenters are Brian Adams and Chris Valle—two internationally and commercially successful visual artists.
